Born in 1967, Sabine Danzé is a polymorphic artist: a painter, performer, street artist, author-photographer, and digital artist. This diversity of mediums conveys the guiding principle of her approach: freedom.

An absolute freedom, whether in technique, gesture, sensation, or emotion: the emphasis is on the exalted expression of her own perception of the “Other” (as well as of herself).

Sabine Danzé paints her encounters, whether they are esteemed individuals from her close circle or anonymous figures that have left an impression on her. She seeks to transcribe the impressions each of these experiences has evoked.

In the artist’s words: “I have never known how to love. I have only known how to give myself. The only reason to love is to be able to think it, feel it, translate it, without ever touching the other, without ever looking at them, without ever approaching them. For 20 years, I have been trying to highlight this language; I don’t know any other. I paint because I want to love, I need to love you. I paint your faces; I want to say I love you, and I will never know you, but I love you in the most intense and alive way possible. I love you because I don’t give myself. I love you because you take nothing. You are just unique, and you make me unique. I paint you.” – Sabine Danzé

Her numerous performances reveal a unique and innovative creative process: accompanied by electronic music from which she draws her prodigious energy, Sabine Danzé becomes one with the material. Placing her concept of art on a multi-sensory platform, this sonic environment allows her to give free rein to her artistic impulse.

Thanks to her ambidexterity, she sets her entire body in motion to impact the canvas, in a form of trance or instinctive and spontaneous choreography. Invited to Soir 3 in 2017, parallel to the FIAC (International Contemporary Art Fair), she confided to the journalists, “I need to dance to paint…”

This need for letting go in the gesture is also characterized in her works by an inclination to prefer large formats and – always – push the limits, even material ones.

Describing herself as the “cameo of Art,” Sabine Danzé has continuously painted day after day to evolve her practice, techniques, and diversify the type of materials she uses. Her work today maintains a close relationship with street art, stemming from a rich collaboration with a friend, the street artist Wiser. In her studio, she discovers new techniques and develops a growing interest in materials inherent to this art born in the streets. Gradually, the artist develops a unique approach by combining oil painting and speed-flow ink, supplemented with markers or spray paint work.

This period was marked by the creation of murals. In 2014, for example, she took over Le Mausolée, a reference in French graffiti history initiated by Lek & Sowat. Le Mausolée is an abandoned 40,000 m2 supermarket located north of Paris, which became, from 2010 onwards, the secret and clandestine residence of graffiti artists from all horizons. The place was quickly adorned with murals and gigantic installations. This large-scale collaborative project transformed a former space dedicated to consumption into a true temple promoting street and underground culture.

In this space, she decided to create a work on an as yet unexploited, difficult-to-reach wall on the upper floor. Despite complete darkness, and only illuminated by a flashlight, she painted a mural in green tones. True to herself, this figure adorned with a bandana and a globe, frozen in a graceful position reminiscent of Hip-Hop dance, was born to the sound of electronic music. It is a tribute, where the bloody globe embodies a sense of combative unity towards the recognition of this intuitive art, originally depreciated by academic codes.
