Biografía
Alejandro Quincoces, born in 1951 in Bilbao (Spain), is a contemporary painter known for his melancholic urban landscapes. A former advertising professional, he has devoted himself entirely to painting for over thirty years, bringing a sharp sense of composition shaped by his graphic background.
TEXTE
His work explores the fringes of the city: highways, industrial zones, bridges, construction sites—spaces in transition that he transforms into metaphors for solitude, the passage of time, and the human condition. Using a muted, earthy palette, he emphasizes atmosphere and suggestion over detail, often painting under twilight or misty light.
TEXTE
He works mainly with oil on wood or canvas. His technique involves layered brushwork, glazes, and textured effects that blur outlines, enhancing the hazy, introspective quality of his scenes. Precision gives way to an atmospheric, almost dreamlike vision.
TEXTE
Between realism and abstraction, his paintings reflect the imprint of modernity on the landscape and our intimate relationship with space. Inspired by Turner, Goya, and Velázquez, Quincoces brings a classical sensibility to a deeply contemporary world. Winner of the BMW Painting Prize and the Lorenzo il Magnifico Prize at the Florence Biennale, he has exhibited throughout Europe and the United States, and his work is held in prestigious collections such as the Sorigué Foundation.
